Two Exhibits

I currently have an exhibit at Frameworks in San Luis Obispo from September 6 to November 30, 2024. The title and theme of the show is “Our Houses, Our Homes”. There is a wonderful collection of over twenty oil paintings of houses in California, Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Michigan, and France. Frameworks is located at 339 MArsh Street in SLO.

Also, I will greet visitors once again this year during the county-wide Open Studios Tour. This is a great chance to see the full range of my art, including oils, watercolors, block prints, drawings, and more. Recent works will be on display, as well as a huge collection of paintings going back almost fifty years. Come see a variety of styles and subject matter from around the world. Open Studios is sponsored by SLO County Arts and catalogs are provided free. I will only be participating the first of two weekends, October 12, 13, from 10 to 5. My studio is located at 599 Rosina Dr, Los Osos, CA 93402.

Mackinac Island

I recently returned from Mackinac Island, Michigan, this June 2024. I had the honor and pleasure of executing a commission for Governor Whitmer of Michigan of the Governor’s summer residence on Mackinac Island. The residence is a magnificent establishment administered by the State Park. Adding to the wonderful experience of being on the Island, I was housed in the Governor’s residence. Unfortunately the Governor was not in residence but other members of her family were there and were extremely welcoming. Being from Michigan, I’ve had a long relationship with the Island, from vacationing there with my family as a child to working at hotels there after high school and college, and then as an artist over the years. I had a one-man show at the Grand Hotel on the Island in 1989. For the past five years I have exhibited at Mackinac’s Little Gallery on Market Street. That connection led to my commission with Governor Whitmer. During my week there I did several views of the house, plus I found the time to do a couple more of the charming views on the Island. Besides being a wonderful place to paint for the historic village, quaint cottages, and magnificent views of the Great Lakes, the Island lends itself to plein air painting because there are no automobiles on the Island. So, no noisy cars zooming past or blocking the views. In every direction you turn there is something wonderful to paint.

In Person workshop

I’m happy to announce a new on-site, in person workshop for this summer! 2023The proposed dates are June 27-30. After nearly a three-year gap, I will lead a group of students to four wonderful locations around Morro Bay and Los Osos, California, for on-site instruction. As usual, the classes will transpire over four afternoons at four different locations. I will do a different demonstration painting each day and subsequently will give each student individual attention and coaching. In a fight against inflation, the cost will be the same as in past years, four days of instruction for $390. See details and how to sign up on my workshop page on this website.

 Upcoming Exhibits

Things are gradually picking up, post Covid-19. I have been painting steadily for the past two years during Covid-19, but I have become very lazy about marketing, workshops, and exhibits. However, here are a few things I am involved with and coming up.

I am currently part of an exhibit with the California Art Club in Pasadena, CA at their gallery at the Old Mill. The exhibit is called A Walk Down Memory Lane. My entry is “Santa Fe Winter” in memory of the seven years I spent the winters in Santa Fe. Look at the exhibit here.

I will also be a part of another online exhibit with the California Art Club called the Beauty of the Story, which can also be seen on their website.

And, I will be participating in an in person exhibit at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden, March 25th -27th. There will be an opening reception Friday evening from 5 to 7, followed by Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 5. I will be in attendance both days. I will be featuring mostly small format oils (11x14) at very reasonable prices. Learn more here.
